Consider an Automated Teller Machine, the body of which is located within a bank vault, protected and monitored by an EID. Extra protection may be gained by installing additional remote heads on lower risk points ofentry such as adjoining walls, ceiling area immediately above the ATM or the vault door frame. In this example, extending the EID area of coverage to the local environment would indicate an incursion before the attack on the ATM takes place. In short, the IRH is a cost-effective solution to expanding the effective detection area of the EID in cases where installation of an EID for every wall, ceiling etc. cannot be justified.
